Dumais Wins Again at Caledon Woods
- Mizuno All-Canadian Award Winners Announced –

Caledon, Ont. - Ping Canadian Junior Match Play Championship winner Alex Dumais, 16, punctuated his stellar 2006 campaign with a victory yesterday at the CJGA Fall Series Finale presented by Baka Wireless at Caledon Woods Golf Club. The event also featured the presentation of the Mizuno All-Canadian Award to Brittany Henderson and Oliver Cardoso.
Dumais overtook first round leader Will Thornburrow on Sunday on his home course, closing with a 73 for a 149 total (+7). “I kept my head in there after a bad start,” said Dumais, on his final round. “I was able to get up and down quite a few times.” Three players tied for second in the division at 153. Brendan McKee, 15, of Toronto, Ont., Robert Blaker, 16, of Newcastle, Ont. and David Olejnik, 15, of Burlington, Ont.
Sean Burke, 18, of Mississauga, Ont. captured his first division title of 2006 after defeating Thornhill, Ontario’s Mark Hoffman, 18, in a playoff that lasted two holes. “I wasn’t exaclt calm going into the playoff but I was able to trust what I was doing,” said Burke. Third place in the Boys 17 – 19 Division went to Eric Hawerchuk, 17, of Orangeville, Ont.
Burlington’s Kristoper Kowalchuk, 12, ended his 2006 campaign on a winning note, capturing the Boys 13 & Under Division by a single shot ahead of first round leader Jordan Oudyk, 13, of Oshawa, Ont. “My putting kept it together today,” said Kowlachuk, who fired rounds of 76 and 74. “The weather made it pretty difficult.” Third place in the division went to Jack Shoreman, 13, of Orangeville at 157.
Mississauga’s Michelle Lee, 13, captured her second Girls Division title of 2006 after posting rounds of 83 and 78 for a 161 total and a convincing twelve shot victory. “My course management was good today,” said Lee. “I was able to save quite a few pars.” Sarah Magee, 18, of Oakville, Ont. grabbed second spot in the division. Stephanie Carr, 13, of Amherstburg, Ont. finished third.
The awards presentation on Sunday included a presentation to the recipients of the 2006 Mizuno All-Canadian Award. Brittany Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ont. and Oliver Cardoso of Ile Bizard, Que. were on hand to accept their awards.
The Canadian Junior Golf Association will conduct its final event of 2006 in Palm Harbor, Fla. from December 27th to 30th at the Westin Innisbrook Golf Resort. The CJGA World Junior Challenge promised to feature a full, international field of competitors. Applications will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis.
