Canadians Fare Well at Teens on the Green World Championship

- Three Canadian golfers travelled to Atlanta, Ga. last week for the Teens on the Green World Championship after earning exemptions into the event through a CJGA qualifier earlier in the season.

Sheamus Murphy of Tweed, Ont., Matthew Charun of Calgary, Alta., and Jesse Gibson of Saskatoon, Sask. represented the CJGA at the prestigious event where over 60 nations have been represented in the tournament’s history. Murphy, Charun, and Gibson all recorded the low overall score at their CJGA provincial qualifier for the Teens on the Green World Championship.

The tournament ran from October 7th to 9th at the difficult Stone Mountain Golf Club in Stone Mountain, Ga.

The top finisher in the event was Gibson. The 2006 CJGA Nike Golf Junior Championship participant finished in a tie for 5th in the Boys 13 - 14 Division after firing rounds of 77, 83, and 85 for a 245 total.  He finished 13 strokes back of the winner.

Murphy finished in a tie for 19th spot at 236 (81, 76, 79) while Charun finished 25th at 242 (81, 81, 80) in the Boys 15 - 18 Division.  The winner, Italian Max Greil, posted a three-round total of 216.

The top Canadians in the tournament were CJGA members Johnny Hall of Langton, Ont. and Brett Cairns of Courtland, Ont. Hall and Cairns finished 5th and 6th respectively in the Boys 15 – 18 Division.

About Teens on the Green World Championship
The Teens On The Green World Championship has been played in Miami, Florida, Orlando, Florida,  St Croix, U.S., Virgin Islands, and Atlanta, Georgia.  The largest country participation was the last event in Atlanta, 2005 with 33 Countries, and 32 U.S. States participating, with 5 countries with injured or ill players not attending.
The purpose of this event is to expose junior golfers of the world to each other, and to college coaches seeking top talent, and intelligence.  The low overall junior golfer at each CJGA qualifying tournament event will earn an exemption.  Junior golfers who qualify will have their flight costs covered.  For additional information please visit www.teensonthegreen.com.
