Koo Runs Away With CJGA B.C. Fall Series Title
Harrison Mills, B.C. (September 10, 2007) – The Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) opened its B.C. Fall Series schedule this past weekend at Sandpiper Golf Club in Harrison Mills, B.C. Langley, B.C. resident John Koo posted the low overall score for the event highlighted by an opening round 69 (-3).
The event was the final CJGA Teens on the Green World Championship Qualifier on the national schedule in 2007.
It was a convincing win for Koo as he posted a two-day total of 143 (-1) in capturing the Boys 17 – 19 Division by 14 strokes ahead of Ahmed Amlani, 17, of South Surrey, B.C. “It wasn’t as good today as yesterday but I played pretty solid,” said Koo after the round. “It always feels nice to shoot a score in the 60’s.” Third place in the division went to Vincent Wang of Langley.
A playoff decided the Boys 14 – 16 Division as Nicholas Russell, 14, of Vancouver, B.C. made a par on the second extra hole to capture the title after posting rounds of 79 and 77 (+12). “Riley and I know each other so the playoff was a bit more relaxed,” said Russell, referring to second place finisher Riley Nelson, 15, of Chilliwack, B.C. Third place in the division went to Jesse Ostrosky, 16, of Gibsons, B.C.
Guuntas Sidhu, 12, of Port Coquitlam, B.C. held off his fellow competitors in the Boys 13 & Under Division to collect his first division title of 2007. Sidhu posted rounds of 80 and 86 for a 166 total and a six-shot win ahead of Donald Qiu of Richmond, B.C. “I didn’t play my best this weekend but my scores were steady enough to hold on to first,” said Sidhu. Third place in the division went to Changmin Lee of Vancouver.
A division low 76 on Saturday gave Anica Yoo, 13, of Port Coquitlam, B.C. enough of a cushion to collect her second consecutive Girls Division title on the CJGA Junior Tour. Yoo held off Lauren Taylor, 15, of Nelson, B.C. by a single stroke after posting a 160 two-day total. “I got off to a good start this weekend and my putter worked well,” said Yoo. Third place in the division went to Aram Choi, 15, of Surrey.
