Etobicoke, Ont. (September 10, 2007) – After three runner up finishes in 2007, Brockville, Ont. resident Ben Glynn finally earned his first win over the weekend at Royal Woodbine Golf Club in Etobicoke, Ont. at the CJGA Ontario Fall series opener.

Glynn, 18, played consistent golf on the difficult layout in carding rounds of 73 and 74 (+3) for a convincing eleven stroke victory ahead of first round leader Brad Neudorf, 17, of Virgil, Ont.  “I;m happy to come home with the win but I was pretty inconsistent this weekend,” said Glynn.  “I want to improve my mental game.”  Third place in the Boys 17 – 19 Division went to Steven Curtis, 18, of Mississauga, Ont.

Jamie Skyrpec, 16, of Kitchener, Ont. overtook first round leader and CJGA Nike Golf Junior Championship winner Jonathan Kim-Moss in the Boys 14 – 16 Division on Sunday after carding a final round 78 (+6) for a 154 (+10) total.  “I played pretty well until the last hole when I took a 9 to make it interesting,” said Skrypec.  “All around my game was solid and I’m pretty happy to get my first CJGA win.”  Kim-Moss finished second in the flight while third place went to Michael Hastings, 16, of Toronto.

Ryan Borg, 13, of Mississauga, Ont. coasted to victory in the Boys 13 & Under Division after opening up a seven-stroke lead after the first round on the strength of his division low 76 (+4).  He was victorious by nine strokes after carding an 82 on Sunday.  “It was an exciting tournament but I had some up and down rounds,” acknowledged Borg, who made a hole-in-one on Saturday on the par-3 10th.  Second place in the division went to Matthew Lariviere, 13, of Richmond Hill, Ont. while Sean Carlino, 13, of Hamilton, Ont. finished third.

Julia DiGiovanni, 14, of Mississauga, Ont. earned her first CJGA victory in the Girls flight after outlasting Emily Mau, 16, of Thornhill, Ont.  “My short game was really shaky but I hit the ball well,” said DiGiovanni.  “I’m happy I won!”

The CJGA Ontario Fall Series will continue next weekend at Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Georgetown, Ont.  The field at Eagle Ridge will include a number of international competitors who will compete in the Canadian International Junior Challenge (CIJC) the following week at Royal Niagara Golf Club in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont.

A large Boys 13 & Under field includes Ryan Borg, 13, of Mississauga, Ont.  Borg’s two victories in 2007 include a win at the Mizuno Eastern Canadian Junior Championships in July.  Matthew LaRiviere, 13, of Richmond Hill, Ont. should do well as should 2007 CJGA Team Canada member Gajan Sivabalasingham, 13, of Markham, Ont.

Nike Golf Junior Championship winner, Jonathan Kim-Moss, 16, of Mississauga, will look to carry his momentum into Royal Woodbine.  The national champion will compete against a large flight of 32 additional juniors that includes Kaneff Junior Series standout, Jordan Romano, 14, of Thornhill, Ont. and Christian Wong, 16, of Toronto.

A wide open Boys 17 – 19 flight includes Ben Glynn, 18, of Brockville, Ont.  Glynn has one win to his credit in 2007 and has not finished lower than 2nd in four previous events.  Steven Curtis, 18, of Mississauga and Mikhail Ziskos, 17, of Toronto should also do well.

Julia DiGiovanni, 14, of Mississauga and Emily Mau, 16, of Thornhill will battle it out for the Girls Division title.  Royal Woodbine should prove to be a tough test for the two competitors.

Tee-times for the event will get underway at 11:00 a.m. for both days of the event.  As always, spectators are encouraged to attend.
