Markham, Ont. (January 11, 2008) – The Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) is pleased to release its 2008 schedule.  The CJGA will once again offer an unmatched junior golf schedule across Canada for junior golfers aged 5 – 19.

Established in 1993, the CJGA has grown tremendously over the past 15 years to become the premier junior golf option for aspiring golfers in Canada.  In addition to its Junior Tour (ages 11 – 19) schedule of over 60 events, the CJGA will also continue to offer its Junior Linkster Tour (Ages 5 – 12) in the provinces of Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan and Alberta.

“We’ve put together another great national schedule,” said Jason Gendron, Director of Tournament Operations for the CJGA.  “With events slated to run coast to coast, junior golfers in this country will have no shortage of competitive venues in 2008.”

In addition to the numerous tour stops, the CJGA will also represent Canada in a number of international tournaments including the Stephen Ames Cup in Moka, Trinidad, Mizuno North America Cup in Hilton Head, S.C., Junior World Golf Championships in San Diego, Calif. and Euro Junior Golf Cup in St. Andrews, Scotland.  CJGA Team Canada will be hard pressed to match the performance turned in on the international stage in 2007 where the Canadians went unbeaten in all three Ryder Cup style competitions in which they competed.

“Internationally, Canadian junior golfers are now beginning to realize they’re among the world’s best,” acknowledged John Lawrence, Managing Director of Tour Operations and International Competitions for the CJGA.  “Our presence on the international stage is continually improving and we expect that several juniors will once make an impact this season.”

The CJGA will offer two national championships this summer as the mid-season Ping Canadian Junior Match Play Championship will run from July 14 – 17 while the Mizuno CJGA National Golf Championship will return to National Pines Golf Club in Innisfil, Ont. from August 18 – 21.

National Founding Partners, HSBC Bank Canada and LEXUS, who will return in 2008 to sponsor the HSBC Clinics For Kids and LEXUS Skills Competitions respectively, lead a tremendous sponsorship backing.  Nike Golf Canada will return as the title sponsor of the Nike Golf Junior Series that will be held across Canada culminating with the Nike Golf Junior Championship in late August.  Additional tournament sponsors include Lipton Brisk, Mizuno Canada, Big Chief Beef Jerky, TaylorMade-adidas Golf, Ping, Humber College, Adams Golf, Sunice, the Canadian Professional Golfers’ Association (CPGA) and Baka Wireless.

Tournament registrations are now open to all participating CJGA members for 2008.
