CJGA Team Defends Title at Euro Junior Golf Cup

St. Andrews, Scotland (August 3, 2007) – The Canadian Junior Golf Association’s (CJGA) Team Canada held off a hard charging American squad on Friday to capture its second consecutive Euro Junior Golf Cup title.  CJGA Team Canada finished with 46.5 points ahead of IJGT Team USA’s 43.5 points and the Fife Golf Association’s 36 points.

CJGA Team Canada collected 11.5 out of a possible 28 points today but held an impressive 9 point lead heading into the round to hold off the American side’s 17.5 point day.  The Scottish side earned 13 points on the day.

“It was an exciting finish for sure,” acknowledged John Lawrence, the non-playing captain of CJGA Team Canada.  “We didn’t have the greatest day but we hung tough and pulled it out.  A complete team effort through and through.”

The victory is the second consecutive for CJGA Team Canada at the Euro Junior Golf Cup, marking the first time this has happened in the ten-year history of the event.  Additionally, with the victory, CJGA Team Canada has also won both the Mizuno North America Cup and Euro Junior Golf Cup titles in the same calendar year for the first time.

About the Euro Junior Golf Cup
The Euro Junior Golf Cup is one of the CJGA’s most reputable international tournaments. It will be held in St. Andrews, Scotland from August 1 – 3, 2007.  CJGA Team Canada will face off against the United States, represented by the International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT), and the Fife Golf Union in the Ryder Cup style event.  Prior to their departure, CJGA Team Canada members will participate in an elite training camp conducted by CJGA national coach, Sean Foley, at Glen Abbey Golf Club.  John Lawrence will assume the role of non-playing captain for the CJGA Team Canada.  Tournaments will be held throughout the season for players to qualify for the CJGA Team Canada for the Euro Junior Golf Cup.
