Narrow Lead for Scotland After First Round of Euro Junior Golf Cup

ST. ANDREWS, SCOTLAND (July 30, 2008) – A gorgeous Scottish day greeted the 42 competitors who are taking part in the prestigious Euro Junior Golf Cup this week in St. Andrew’s, Scotland.  CJGA Team Canada, IJGT Team USA, and the Fife Golfing Association battled it out at Charleton Golf Club as the Scottish team opened up a narrow 1.5 point lead over both of their North American opponents after day one.

All three teams played well during their opening round threeball matches as Fife earned 15 points to open up a slight margin of a lead heading into tomorrow’s matches at Crail Golf Club.

“CJGA Team Canada left a lot out there but there were some great performances,” acknowledged John Lawrence, non-playing captain of CJGA Team Canada.  “Hopefully we can put it all together tomorrow.”

Whitby, Ont. resident Michael Ayotte turned in the round of the day as he closed out his American opponent 4 & 3 and his Scottish opponent 7 & 5.  He was five-under par through 15 holes.  Curtis Chan of Richmond, B.C., Riley Fleming of Airdrie, Alta., and Mike Herperger of Humboldt, Sask. were also unbeaten in their two matches.
