Off Season - A Time to Train by Connor O’Shea, CJGA Regional Coach |
|
The game of golf will always be evolving. It’s amazing as a coach how much I have been able to witness in the last 10 years. The improvements in golf ball technology along with new aged drivers have changed the way we looked at ball flight and shot shape patterns. New spin rate possibilities have led to different launching conditions making Golf a sport of power and fitness. These improvements have also influenced how we teach the golf swing to produce efficient speed and protect the body. The IOC committee recently voted Golf into the 2016 Olympic games and although the Olympics games you will play in are years away. This decision will prove to have major influence on how juniors around the world will train to play our sport. On the PGA Tour and in college golfers already use a team of swing coaches, fitness trainers, sport doctors and physiologist to help them perform their best. My suggestion is the trickledown effect is already under way so if you want to play at the next level its time to start training. Here are some suggestions for your off-season; to help make you ready to play your best in 2010. |

Get Fit There are some wonderful training programs available for golfers now. Training in a gym for golf is much different than working out to be a body builder. Advancements in sport science and golf training programs should aim to make you functionally strong and stable. At an age when you’re growing a lot |
