Genoway Captures Low Overall At Big Chief Beef Jerky Alberta Championship Seriess

CALGARY, AB- The Canadian Junior Golf Association concluded its Big Chief Beef Jerky Alberta Championship Series this past Wednesday, at Shaw-nee Slopes Golf Course, in Calgary, Alta.

17-year-old Calgary, Alta. native Scott Genoway captured the low overall and the Boys 17-19 Division following a two-hole playoff with 18-year-old Stony Plain, Alta. product Sean Rodgers. “That was the first time that I’ve been in a playoff so I was a little shaky on the first hole,” said Genoway. “Luckily I managed to pull it off on the second hole,” he added. Third place in the division went to 18-year-old Red Deer, Alta. resident Mitchell Evanecz.

In the Girls Division, Megan Claxton, a 17-year-old Calgarian captured the flight in her first ever CJGA event, with a three day total of 251. “The driver was really working well and my short game was on,” said Claxton, who added that she really enjoyed the course. Finishing two strokes behind Claxton for second was Crystal Shapka, 16, of Okotoks, Alta. while 16-year-old Alexandra Parker rounded out the top three.

Victory in the Boys 14-16 Division was secured by 16-year-old Kolby Kniel, who hails from Beaverlodge, Alta. He finished with a three day total of 222. “I played some consistent golf this week,” said Kniel. “I drove the ball really well all three days and kept the big numbers off the scorecard,” he added. Second place in the flight went to 16-year-old product of Grande Prairie, Alta. Matthew Albinati finished second in the division, six strokes off the pace while 15-year-old Calgarian Brad Thompson picked up the final spot on the podium.

Finally, in the Boys 13 & Under Division, it was Craig Bloom, 13, of Calgary, Alta. who was crowned the division winner. “I didn’t play my best but it was nice to win on my home course nonetheless,” said Bloom. Finishing second to Bloom was Michael Chen, 12, who hails all the way from Taiwan while Drake Reghenas, 13, of Calgary, Alta. finished third.
