Strong Field in Place for Big Chief Beef Jerky CJGA Alberta Championship

Markham, Ont. (August 20, 2007) – A strong field of Alberta’s top junior golfers will tee it up this week at Elbow Springs Golf Club in Calgary, Alta. for the annual Big Chief Beef Jerky Alberta Championship.  The event will run August 20th and 21st.

The Boys 14 – 16 Division features several CJGA Team Canada members including Scott Malo, 15, of Calgary, and Carson Kallis, 14, of Red Deer, Alta.  The two should do well in the flight though expect Sean Jedrusiak, 16, and Rhys Tosczak, 14, both of Calgary to also contend.

A wide open Boys 17 – 19 flight has no clear cut favourite with a number of top junior golfers registered to compete.  Matthew Chawrun, 18, of Calgary, Kenny Gregor, 17, of Calgary, and Rhys Royer, 17, of Calgary are three names to look out for.  Jack Wesche, 18, of Calgary should also do well.

Ten competitors are registered in the Girls flight including Kelly Amundrud, 16, of Calgary who has one division title to her credit in 2007.  Jocleyn Alford, 17, of Calgary should compete with Amundrud for the division title as should CJGA Team Canada member Cecilia Jeon, 15, of Calgary.

A first time winner will emerge from the Boys 13 & Under Division as Aaron Crawford, 13, of Calgary should do well after several top-3 finishes in 2007.  Troy Stewart, 13, and Matt Williams, 11, both of Calgary, should also contend.
