Mother Nature Challenges Juniors at the CPGA of Saskatchewan hosted by Elk Ridge
August 4th, 2005

Waskesiu, SK- -
On the final day of the CJGA/CPGA of Saskatchewan Junior Championship at Elk Ridge Resort, the juniors combated the elements throughout their rounds, as they faced a drop in the temperature, very high winds as well as rain while on the course. Tim Acaster of North Battleford, SA continued his strong play and held off a charge by his fellow CJGA Team Canada member Scott Thompson of St. Walburg, SK to capture the overall low title by one stroke at 225 for the three-day tournament. The teammates had just one day off following their victory at the Stephen Ames Cup in Toronto, Ont. before they were back on the course in Saskatchewan. The most notable performance of the day came from 18-year-old Tyler Gesy of Saskatoon, SK who shot a 2-under 70 to leap into third spot in the Boys 17-19 Division.

After surrendering his first-round lead to Aaron Little of Canwood, SK on Day 2, Justin Stoski of Saskatoon, SK fired a 77 to recapture the lead from Little, who shot an 80 and finished one stroke behind Stoski with a final score of 229 after the three rounds. "I took advantage of every chance at making a birdie I had today to just barely get ahead of Aaron," said Stoski after winning the Boys 17-19 Division on Wednesday. Mike Doherty of Saskatoon, SK fought through the weather conditions and finished with a noteworthy score of 76 on Day 3, placing himself one stroke behind Gesy for third spot with a final total of 234.

In the Boys 14-16 Division, Acaster and Thompson were dominant all three days, finishing first and second respectively, as they led the division, as well as the rest of the field. "It seemed like I was trying to give away my lead at times," said Acaster, referring to the Par-5 17th hole when he sliced his tee shot ten yards into the forest and was lucky to find his ball upon last glance before accepting a lost ball penalty. Acaster followed with three incredible shots to make birdie on the hole. Capturing third place in the division was Ben Schaeffer of Bonnyville, AB with a score of 242.

In the Boys 13 and Under Division, Jesse Gibson of Saskatoon, SK had another impressive day, as he matched his stellar Round 2 score of 74, to win the division by 11 strokes. "I was able to keep the ball down today and out of the wind – that was key," noted Gibson. Matching rounds of 76 were recorded by Scott Pinder of Saskatoon, SK and Danny Klughart of Prince Albert, SK to finish second and third in the division, with final scores of 238 and 242 respectively.

Twelve-year-olds Thea Hedemann and Anna Young, both of Saskatoon, SK battled the course, the weather and one another throughout the three days at Elk Ridge Resort atop the Girls Division. Hedemann had the edge after Day 2 and used the momentum to her advantage to capture the first place title in the division.
