Hebert Triumphs in TaylorMade-adidas Golf Invitational at Whistle Bear

CAMBRIDGE, ON (July 1, 2008) – Bright skies framed another successful day in the Canadian Junior Golf Association’s (CJGA) TaylorMade-adidas Golf Invitational at Whistle Bear Golf Club hosted by PGA Tour Winner, and Cambridge native, Ian Leggatt. The day was highlighted by Samuel Hebert of the Boys 13& Under Division who won his division and shot the tournament’s low score of 144 (E).

“Today went well, I was three-under after 6 and I made four birdies today,” said Hebert. “I just want to continue shooting around par for the rest of the season so I can better prepare myself for Scotland where I will play for CJGA Team Canada.”  Ryan Borg of Mississauga, Ont. finished second in his division, while Josh Whalen of Napanee, Ont. finished in third.

In other divisional races, Julia Hodgson of Unionville, Ont. maintained her lead to win the Girls Division with a two day score of 148 (+4). “The first day I was really on my game, but then I got really nervous on the second day, I was shaking on every putt,” admitted Hodgson. “I’ll be busy with tournaments for the rest of the month.  I just hope I can continue playing the same.”   In second place, just three strokes behind was Alyssa Kwon of Richmond Hill, Ont and Lauren Bowerman-Ritchie captured third. Jamie Dodds of Union, Ont won the Boys 14-16 Division with a impressive two day total of 147 (+3).

“The course was hard, but I played well and grounded it out,” explained Dodds. “It was really helpful having a sign bearer around. It made me a little more nervous, but knowing where I stood in the match really helped me out.” Zack Kempa of Brantford, Ont. finished the day in second place while Michael Whalen of London, Ont. placed third.  In the Boys 17-19 Division, Jeff Gelinas of Windsor, Ont. won his division with a two day score of 146 (+2). “Today went pretty well, it was really tiring, but I managed to hit a lot of greens and a lot of fairways, so it was a successful day,” said Gelinas. In second place was Brendan Leonard of Cambridge, Ont. and in third was Josh Bamberger of Waterloo, Ont.
