Mizuno CJGA National Golf Championship Set for Monday

Markham, Ont. (August 19, 2007) – A full international field of competitors will tee it up beginning Monday August 20th for the annual Mizuno CJGA National Golf Championship presented by HSBC Bank Canada.  Several interesting storylines headline what should be a fiercely contested four rounds of stroke play at National Pines Golf Club in Barrie, Ont.

Smiths Falls, Ont. resident Brittany Henderson, 16, has not lost a CJGA event in over two years.  She will tee it up at National Pines Golf Club in Barrie, Ont. this week as the two-time defending champion of the Mizuno CJGA National Golf Championship and is coming off strong results at both the Junior World Golf Championships and U.S. Junior.  A Girls flight of 17 additional participants is loaded with talent including the last female winner of the CJGA national championship not named Brittany in recent Stephen Ames Cup participant Hayley Brown, 15, of Newmarket, Ont.  Martine de Gannes, 17, of Blue Range, Trinidad, Julia Hodgson, 15, of Unionville, Ont., and Hailey Ingleson, 16, of Oakville, Ont. should also contend.

Former Mizuno CJGA National Golf Championship winner Justin Shin, 15, of Richmond Hill, Ont. should do well this week competing in the Boys 14 – 16 Division.  The flight includes several CJGA 2007 division winners including Benjamin Murray, 15, of Toronto, Ont. who has collected three wins and Jonathan Kim-Moss, 16, of Brampton, Ont. who won the CJGA season opener in British Columbia in March.  Jordan Jackson, 15, of Toronto, Ont. and Richard Jung, 14, of North York, Ont. will also compete in what should be a wide open flight.

Lucas Kim, 13, of Newmarket, Ont. will defend his 2006 national championship title in the Boys 13 & Under Division.  The standout leads the CJGA with six victories to his credit in 2007.  CJGA Team Canada member, Kristopher Kowalchuk, 13, of Burlington, Ont. should push Kim for the title as should Truman Tai, 13, of Markham, Ont. and Ryan Borg, 12, of Mississauga, Ont.

Ryan Corbin, 19, of Niagara Falls, Ont. will make his final appearance at this event in the Boys 17 – 19 Division.  The 2005 Mizuno CJGA National Golf Championship winner will face off against a highly competitive flight that includes last year’s winner in the Boys 14 – 16 Division, Michael Gligic, 17, of Burlington, Ont. CJGA Team Canada members Alex Dumais, 17, of Caledon East, Ont., Will Thornburrow, 17, of Toronto and Braeden Cryderman, 17, of Huntsville, Ont. should do well.

The tee-times for the event will get underway at 7:30 a.m. for all four days.  A cut will reduce the fields in each flight following the second round.
