Acaster Shoots CJGA Season Low 65 at Nike Golf Junior Series at Dakota Dunes
SASKATOON, SK - The final round of the Canadian Junior Golf Association's (CJGA) Nike Golf Junior Series at Dakota Dunes was completed today at Dakota Dunes Golf Links in Saskatoon, Sask. Improved weather conditions led to lower scores on Sunday, highlighted by a CJGA season low 65 by Tim Acaster, 16, of North Battleford, Sask. in the Boys 14-16 Division.
Acaster made only one bogey one Sunday and punctuated his round with an eagle on the par-five 18th. "It was my best round ever," he said. "I putted extremely well and my wedge game was automatic today." Scott Thompson, 16, of St. Walburg, Sask. finished in second place after recording a great round of his own at 67. In third was first round leader Cornel Smith, 16, of Regina, Sask. at 150.
Osiowy collected his first career CJGA division title after a duel with eventual third place finisher Ryan Wiebe, 17, of Swift Current, Sask. He finished at four-over 146. "I played a solid round today," said Osiowy, of his one-under score. "Ryan and I battled back and forth all day." A division low 70 by second place finisher Scott Kulczycki, 17, of Meadow Lake, Sask. moved him up from fourth place after Saturday.
A third first time winner on tour emerged from the Boys 13 & Under Division as Sean Jedrusiak, 13, played consistent golf over the two days, firing rounds of 76 and 75 for a 151 total. "I'm happy with how I played overall," said Jedrusiak. "I hit my irons really solid." Second place in the division went to Dallas Mengel, 13, of Watrous, Sask. at 154. In third was Jesse Gibson, 13, of Saskatoon, Sask. at 155.
Ashley Olynick held on for victory in the Girls Division, closing with an 81 on Sunday for a 154 total. "I played much better on the back," she said. "Hit my driver really well today."
