STE. SOPHIE, QC (August 11, 2008) – The Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) hosted the Sunice Junior Classic at Val de Lacs Golf Club, where constant rain did not stop some of Ontario and Quebec’s top junior golfers from a spirited competition in an event that was shortened to 27 holes. The Boys 14-16 Division ended in an exciting playoff between Carl Cousineau of Delson, Que. and Louis-Philippe Dandoy of Boucherville, Que. Cousineau prevailed, winning the first hole to clinch his first victory with the CJGA with a final score of 121 (+14).

Cousineau tried his best to control his nerves while competing in the playoff,  “The playoff went well, but it was very scary,” admitted Cousineau. “I putted well and made par. I knew I would have to at least par the hole to stay in the competition, and when I sunk the ball, it made me extremely happy.” Placing third in his division was Charles Verschelden of St-Lambert, Que.

In other divisional races, Caroline Ciot of Brossard, Que. won the Girls Division with a final score of 136 (+29). “My short game was really good these past two days. For the rest of the summer, I plan to play in a few more tournaments and just practice as much as I can,” explained Ciot. Placing second was Camille Mignault of Varennes, Que.

In the Boys 13 & Under Division, Eric-James Boffey of Brossard Que. played two steady rounds, and finished the tournament with a score of 115 (+8). “I decided to focus on the game shot by shot, instead of focusing on the score,” said Boffey. “This strategy really worked for me, so I am going to try to use it for all my upcoming tournaments too.” Lucas Greco of Montreal, Que. came second and

Brandon Gauthier of Laval, Que. finished third.  Jason Prevost of Beaconsfield, Que. won the Boys 17-19 Division, finishing with a score of 121 (+14). “My irons were definitely the strength of my game,” said Prevost.  Brendan Sander of Ottawa, Ont. placed second in his division, while Fabrizio D’Angelo of Laval, Que. finished third.
